Words All Around
As promised, here is the wordy update - in more ways than one.
Lincoln is finally talking. Where Grace at this age (18 months) was saying several words and a few phrases, Bubba has been more the 'strong, silent' type. But this week I've noticed that he's more readily repeating words and sounds - "up" "help" "bear" "milk" (kinda) "book" - for example. It's very adorable. (Of course he's got "MOM" down pat and yells is several times a day).
Speaking of differences between my two beautiful babies, there is quite a difference in their approach to being photographed. Grace frequently asks to have her picture taken; usually when she's got her best dress-ups and lip gloss on and is posing in a hammy way. Lincoln, however, will not smile for a picture even if you beg him to. For example, he's happily playing with his firetruck Cozy Coupe - a perfect Kodak moment - but if he sees you reach for the camera, forget about it. He won't even look at you. So, years from now as we look back at our snapshots, we may be inclined to believe that Linc did not have a happy infancy . . . but no, he's just stubborn.
There is one trait that they both have inherited from their mother (yeah!) - they are a couple of hardcore bookworms. If I need them to sit and be quiet for some amount of time, I can usually plop a stack of books between them on the couch and walk away. Grace reads aloud (with surprisingly good recall of the actual stories) and Lincoln ignores her and jabbers to himslef as he looks at the pictures. Destructo-Bubba is also surprising gentle with books. Rarely does he rip or bend a page. It makes Mommy sooooo happy to know her kids like to read . . . and hopefully will continue to like it through their school years. Poor Daddy will be the only one not able to join in the discussion of the complex characters and unpredictable plot of our family's most recent Book Club selection :).
While I'm on a roll, here are some things to look forward to:
Aunt Katie's Wedding - Oct.9th, Grace will be playing the part of 'World's Most Excited Flower Girl and Lincoln will bear the rings up the aisle (if he cooperates)
Cousin Andrew's Wedding - the very next weekend!
HallZOOween - we go every year and always have a great time. Followed shortly by
Halloween - costumes TBD
Mom & Dad's Trip to Mexico - hasta la vista baby
each of these events should produce some great family pictures . . . maybe we'll even get Lincoln to smile in one.

Sorry I've been slacking. Here are a few shots from the end of summer (in no logical order whatsoever). Next time I promise to post some text to fill you in on what we've been up to.
